Vegan chocolate orange tart
If you liked Jaffa cakes, you’d love this. I promise you won’t taste the chickpeas. They give a great texture and slice like a dream. This no-bake, gluten-free tart is sweetened naturally with Medjool dates, and orange juice so contains no refined sugar.
The recipe is for a 5” tart. It’s pretty filling, so it’s perfect for sharing… or having in 2 halves 😉

Ingredients

For the tart crust
- 120 g Ground Almonds
- 3 Dates
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
For the filling
- .5 Zest of orange
- 115 g Chickpeas
- 5 Dates
- 2 tbsp Cacao powder
- 2 tbsp Orange juice
- 1 pinch Cacao nibs
Method

Add the almonds, dates, salt and coconut oil to a blender

Pulse until the mixture starts to form a dough

Grease a tart case lightly with oil.

Press the dough into the case, use a wet spatula or a sprinkle of almond flour to help.

Pop it into the freezer while you prepare the filling

Blend the orange zest, chickpeas, dates, cacao powder, coconut oil and orange juice until smooth

Fill the case and smooth the top with a large knife or spatula dipped in water

Top with a pinch of cacao nibs for added crunch and a sprinkle of orange zest

Chill in the freezer for 10minutes before serving
Tips
Orange pairs brilliantly with spice. Try adding a pinch of cardamom, clove, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg or ginger to the tart crust mixture.
This tart freezes perfectly, just thaw for 10 minutes before serving
